On June 6th,2025, EMBARK COLLEGE organized a useful event during its Career Week under the life-changing series of Better You Series dubbed Curating a Perfect LinkedIn Profile: Learn to Build Your Brand and Grow Your Professional Presence Online. This session was held from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, and the keynote speaker was Mr. Anuj Shrestha, Head of Brand and Communication at Embark College. Mr. Shrestha is known to be a great storyteller and an expert when it comes to brand building, and he provided students with knowledge regarding how to create a good professional image on LinkedIn.
Mr. Shrestha started by noting the significance of LinkedIn being more than an online resume. He called it a room that aids in promoting personal branding in the profession. He encouraged the people present to think of their profile as a representation of who they are as professionals and to nurture it deliberately and constantly.
He took the participants through the components of an excellent LinkedIn profile, with particular focus on the profile photo, headline, and summary. He provided effective tips on choosing a good and professional photograph, creating a headline that reflects ambition and not just a position held, and a summary that gives a clear image of oneself in terms of the career path and where one wants to go.
One of the most useful aspects of the session was his tips on using LinkedIn every day. Mr. Shrestha encouraged the students to give 5-10 connection requests every day, particularly to individuals in their areas of interest, including alumni, professionals, recruiters, or individuals whom they admire. He further suggested that people should recommend the abilities of others or classmates since this usually prompted others to recommend each other, and it created confidence in the networks.
He stressed that LinkedIn can not be considered as a static profile but more as a living, breathing portfolio. And in order to remain visible, Mr. Shrestha suggested sharing or engaging with content daily and monitoring the impressions of posts during the week to see what your audience likes. He provided pro tips on writing meaningful reflections, re-posting useful industry information, and having productive conversations in the comments section to connect with the algorithm.
Talking about the Experience section, Mr. Shrestha guided the students to realize that merely mentioning the job duties performed by an individual leaves a way lesser impression as compared to mentioning the value and growth that they brought in the course of their duty. He gave examples of how even leadership roles in a student organization or internship experience can be rephrased to show initiative, responsibility, and determination. Another thing that he encouraged was the utilization of less-used areas like Projects, Volunteer Experiences, and Accomplishments to give a complete picture of what someone can do and what they love to do. He openly discussed some of the insecurities that most students experience, such as the fear of not having “enough” to display on LinkedIn or the fear of appearing self-promotional. He told me, “You are not boasting, you are reporting on your development. Unless you share your journey, people will not know it.
Towards the end of the session, Mr. Shrestha answered several insightful questions by the students regarding the etiquette of networking, content creation, and consistency in engagement. Not only were his responses practical, but they were also very inspiring to young professionals who have just entered the digital world. He concluded by encouraging the participants to consider their LinkedIn profile as a mirror reflecting their potential and develop it purposefully because it is a launching pad to numerous opportunities.
It was an outstanding event during Career Week in EMBARK College, which was not only informative but also motivational. It was so much in line with the objectives of The Better You Series, and the attendees were more equipped to improve their online presence confidently, strategically, and with integrity.
