Embark College had students enter a very interactive CV Design Workshop on May 9 2025, guided by Ayushree Thapa a passionate expert in personal branding and career development. The event gathered students from different programs all who were keen to develop one of the most important tools of their job searching – their CV.

The session was developed to be practical, interactive and supportive. Rather than a lecture, it seemed like a conversation, where Ayushree motivated students to think outside the bullet points and formatting box. She helped them to comprehend how a CV could tell a story: not only of what they’ve done, but of who they are and what directions they’ve taken.

During the workshop, students studied some of the major topics including formatting tips, structuring content in a way that makes sense and is impactful, and customizing CVs for pertinent industries or positions. Ayushree also stressed the importance of CVs matching personal strengths, career goals and expectations on the part of potential employers. Her actual world examples and approachable nature made it simple to students to combine the dots between theory and practice.

One of the highlights of the session, live CV review entailed a handful of participants stepping up in front of us, and getting their CVs reviewed on the spot, live. This led to some fantastic talks about shared mistakes, what really stands out to recruiters, and how small changes make a big difference. Ayushree’s feedback was helpful, inspiring and concrete and many students reported that this was the part alone that provided the clarity they had been seeking.

Students had a unique opportunity to use design tools that can make a CV more visually appealing and beneficial for one getting into the creative or very visual industries. Cybertext and then font were discussed, and Ayushree demonstrated how form and function are closely intertwined in attempting to leave a strong first impression.

More, than a technical session, the workshop was personal and empowering. Not only did students come away with better CVs, but their confidence in the way they present themselves in the world was enhanced.

This event was just one step in the ongoing activity of Embark College to equip students for life beyond the classroom subj. It’s one of numerous efforts on the part of those efforts to support professional development, to engage students in their careers with purpose, as well as clarity.

We are thankful to Ayushree Thapa to have loaned her time, energy and her mind to our students. Her warmth and knowledge have been a great impression and we are looking forward to having her back in the future sessions.

Hold your horses — there’s more to come in the form of workshops and events aimed at supporting your growth, learning and great career experience.
