At Embark College, we subscribe to the creed that the future leaders must be empowered by way of providing quality, practical exposure. In addition to our Better You Series Entrepreneurship Week, we were privileged to hold an excellent session on the topic of Startup Investments Landscape in Nepal by the Founder and CEO of Team Ventures, himself, Tenzin Sonam Gonsar. On June 20th, 2025, the session was held in our energetic campus in Yala Sadak, Pulchowk, Lalitpur, and connected the minds of the curious individuals who were interested in knowing more about the dynamics of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Nepal.
The nation at the threshold of entrepreneurial uprising
Gradually and steadily, Nepal is emerging to be an emerging hub of startups. Whether it is fintech and edtech or the so-called agritech, as well as e-commerce, young innovators all over the country are rising to the occasion to find solutions to the complex issues with creative bravery. However, there is one major question that they will have to answer during this process of their development: What is the way to obtain financing and move forward on a sustainable basis?
This talk with Mr. Gonsar gave some answers, answers, and a clue of what is going on behind the scenes of the startup investment environment in Nepal. Having a lot of experience in constructing and helping businesses, his statements could not leave a single student, future entrepreneur, or young startup founder indifferent.
The observations of an Investment Leader
Mr. Gonsar, who has been involved in the development of entrepreneurial businesses through Team Ventures, also provided details on some of his experiences during the development processes of Nepali organizations as they relate to the investment environment. He has simplified complex investment mechanisms. Some of the issues he touched on are:
Things investors seek in a startup
- An explanation of how valuation functions and their importance.
- Venture capital and angel investors in Nepal
- Development challenges start-ups experience in raising capital in the local market
- The confidence builders of the investor.
He has also pointed out that the entrepreneurial spirit of Nepal is very well, and it is just that it is structurally unstructured, should be well supported, and should have the right contacts. The way he did it was both motivating and practical, showing stories of success as well as examples of failures.
Two-Way Communication
The interactive nature of this session was one of the most valuable things about it. Mr. Gonsar is also the promoter of critical thinking among students and the ability to consult. Students had a unique chance to learn what they needed to face in the real world business by learning how to pitch effectively to meet the requirements of pitching, including the legalities of equity and ownership.
The session was no lecture; it was a contest of experience with ambition. People left not only with notes, but with practical concepts and a newfound feeling of what they can do in terms of innovating and leading.
The Importance of This Why
When unemployment among young people is still an issue and some foreign countries are losing potential talent to seek better opportunities, there is no point in thinking that startup culture is just a trend; it is already something that is required. Such events are essential in providing the upcoming generation with the means to think outside the box and work on solutions right at the bottom.
Partnerships with industryAchieving its vision of the creation of the ecosystem that facilitates the growth of ideas and the expansion of impact, Embark College aims to partner with industry leaders such as Tenzin Sonam Gonsar and institutions such as Team Ventures. We are not only training people in business–we are raising builders, doers, and change agents.
Looking Ahead
The session on the ecosystem of startup investments in Nepal was only part of a bigger picture. As solo week continues, we want to bring on additional voices, additional stories, and additional learning opportunities. Every one of these events is a step in the direction of Nepal as a more vibrant, innovative country.
